Founded in a family warehouse in Montreal more than ten years ago, Gladiator Active is taking its place as one of the world’s leading manufacturer of cut resistant hockey equipment.
The idea for the manufacturing of cut resistant hockey socks started with a family tradition. On typical Sunday afternoons we would play hockey at our local ice rink, followed by a night of watching the playoffs on TV. Seeing players getting hurt brought us great concern…
What if it happened to us? We wanted to be able to fully enjoy the sport without the constant worry of sustaining a serious injury that could prevent us from playing for the rest of the season or worse – forever.
The same year, we began producing our basic hockey sock line, Gladiator Active.
2009
How it happened.
After browsing through and testing a multitude of materials, we determined that Dyneema was the material which was best suited for our needs – it is strong enough to stop a speeding skate yet light enough to go unnoticed when worn by a player. By combining our patented Dyneema weave pattern with our knowledge of industrial knitting and apparel making, we created a sock that is both unbelievably thin and durable. thin yet durable.
2009
Why Dyneema.
We chose Dyneema because it is lighter and stronger than any material at equal strength. Engineered around high-performance, Dyneema delivers state-of-the-art protection on the entire surface of the sock. When we designed the sock, we seeked unparalleled performance without compromise on safety.

We engineered the sock around the main component – Dyneema. This being said, we used materials that not only can operate under extreme conditions, but that also do not retain moisture.
We also perfected our design by creating a weave pattern that would allow us to use a single layer of Dyneema without compromising on safety. The result was a thinner, lighter sock that still offers unparalleled levels of protection.
After rigorous testing, we launched our product to the world in 2009, sealing our faith as the first manufacturer of cut-resistant socks in Canada and perhaps the world.
Finally, in 2013, we launched our Gladiator PRO line, which is lighter and more flexible which is tailored to the needs of professional players.
